Simultaneously Localization and Mapping (SLAM) Robotics Project
Simultaneously Localization and Mapping (SLAM) Robotics Project
University of Auckland
February - July 2017
Objective: Senior year group project to design, develop, and program a SLAM robot capable of navigating and mapping an obstacle course, utilizing a range of sensors and other hardware. The robots then competed to navigate the course, with our team gaining the top mark in the class.
Contribution:
Sensor selection, testing, and mountings
Analog-to-digital conversion
Signal processing
Design and manufacture of 3-D printed robot hardware
Takeaways:
This project was my introduction to SLAM mapping, fuzzy logic, and using complex control systems to control a real-world system – things I continued to use and develop at grad school, and even implemented in a number of sponsored research projects.
